My mini manifesto

I know recipes are just a starting point. And even then sometimes they don’t start well. But I trust myself.

I believe that chocolate is not the end-all be-all of desserts or of anything else, really. meh.

I am pretty sure citrus rules – especially lemon and lime. Not sure about grapefruit.

I know I love to cook/bake and I understand that not everyone understands that. Especially my husband (the Man of the House).

I believe that Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Guided by Voices, REM, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Replacements, George Jones, Alan Jackson, and Brad Paisley all have great voices that are all their own and that I enjoy. Anyone besides me notice they are all boys – how weird is that??

I believe God wants us to experiment. That is why he gave us a wonderful brain to use. So use it!

I believe know that I am a night owl. How else did I pass my comps? Or keep posting things on this blog?

I believe you can start over at any time. And that people like me need to do so on a regular basis.

I believe that celery needs to be peeled – it gets rid of all those stringy things. Ugh.

I believe Jane Austen, PD James, Colin Dexter, Agatha Christie, and Georgette Heyer are amazing authors. Just saying – take a chance. I also believe I need to expand my circle of favorite authors.

I believe all pasta sauce needs wine. And mushrooms. I really cannot improve on that.

I believe the Python boys are amazing, but you need to make sure your 8 year-old does not repeat them at school – it is not a good thing. But it is a funny thing.

I love local, non-chain, restaurants in NW Florida’s Gulf Coast. I shall start the list here, but will fail miserably – Jaco’s, Shaggy’s, Hub Stacey’s, Carmen’s Lunch Bar, Ruby Slipper, Peg Leg Pete’s, Goat Lips, Smokey’s, V. Paul’s, Picasso,  – well, this list will be added to – as I said.

I know oysters are amazing. Esp. when they are local, as ours are. We’re spoiled beyond words. See: Peg Leg Pete’s.

I know (certain) dogs love mashed sweet potatoes, and peanut butter, and cottage cheese, and boiled eggs, and you get the point – they are totally spoiled. Lucky them – they have me.

I love my boys –  all of them – the 2 human and the 2 puppers. Well, mostly just the puppers. Yep – pretty much just them.

And these were my first pupper boys.
